Text Box: The Peterson Staff has developed some basic procedures and rules of conduct for the school.  Please familiarize yourself with these procedures and discuss them with your student.   Our goal to is provide an environment where every child can learn.  Any questions regarding these can be directed to your students teacher or any staff member.

Classroom

Student expectations

1.      Follow class rules.

2.      Move to safe area, time out area (chair, table, desk, etc.).

3.      Move student to another classroom safe area.

4.      Listen to teacher and follow directions

5.      Be respectful.

 

Student Accountability

1.      Make restitution and apology (if mean it)

2.      Be accountable for behavior and change.

3.      Be respectful

4.      Fill out Think Sheet.

 

Teacher Requirements

1.      Teacher will model appropriate behavior.

2.      Teacher will treat each child fairly.

3.      Teacher will establish and communicate rules and procedures.

4.      Teacher will provide a safe environment.

5.      Teacher will teach and review routines and procedures.

6.      Redirect once (but keep age of student in mind.)  Other things need to be considered.

7.      Constant supervision.

 

Teacher Accountability

1.      Provide a safe seat in the classroom.

2.      Process with child about behavior.

3.      Time limit on processing behavior (efficiency).

4.      Teachers will be consistent in their expectations

5.      Think sheet.

6.      Be flexible and try new discipline ideas and strategies.

 

Lunchroom:     (back to top)

Student expectations

1.      Use proper table manners

2.      Have quiet conversation

3.      Leave your area as clean or cleaner than you found it

4.      Time management-eat more than you talk

5.      Eat your lunch – reduce waste

 

Student Accountability

1.      Lose talking privilege if it gets too noisy

2.      Dismissal after area is clean

 

Teacher Requirements

1.      Walk students to the lunchroom quietly

2.       Have students in lunch line order

3.      Drop off and pick up on time

4.      Be pleasant and respectful

5.      Consistency of adults in the lunchroom

6.      Use of stoplight, Quiet signal

7.      Problems at lunch taken care of at lunch

 

Teacher Accountability

1.       Teachers will also reinforce lunchroom expectations in their classrooms

 

Restroom:    (back to top)

Student expectations

1.       Follow expectations and rules.

2.       One squirt of soap.

3.      Two paper towels.

4.       Throw trash in trash cans.

5.       No talking.

6.       Hallway expectations.

7.       Limit amount of students in restroom (no more than 5).

8.       One person in a stall

9.       Wait against a wall for your turn.

10.   Water fountain (123 that's enough 4 me).

11.   Hands to self.

12.   Remember to flush.

13.   Both feet on floor.

14.   No climbing on fixtures.

15.   One tile space from drinker & line.

16.   Turn off water in sink.

17.   Use minimal amounts of TP.

18.   Boys hit the urinal.

19.   Teacher needs to supervise.

20.   Use appropriate language in restroom

 

Student Accountability

1.      Bathroom Buddy with teacher or principal.

2.      Take care of needs in timely manner.

3.      Establish a plan for children who have lost bathroom privileges (go last in line, go alone, use classroom restroom, etc…)

 

Teacher Requirements

1.      Supervise in hallway.

2.      Teachers need to peek into restrooms for behavior problems

3.      Establish rules and routines

4.      Schedule breaks so are not all at one time.

5.      Wait for the class before you to leave.

6.      Provide adequate times to use the restroom.

7.       Suggestion:  Do a sponge activity while waiting (Read, math facts, could be, etc…)

 

Teacher Accountability

1.      Student behavior while in the restrooms. 

2.      Maybe assign bathroom monitors

3.      Monitor inappropriate behaviors

Student expectations

1.      Respect equipment by taking care of it.

2.      Hear whistle look up and see how many fingers a lunch aid is holding up.  Line up quietly.

3.      Find your line quickly.

4.      Follow procedures for using equipment

5.      No tag or chasing.

6.      Use restroom before recess.

 

Student Accountability

1.      Apology and Restitution.

2.      Go to safe zone for think time.

3.      Go to supervisor when there are major issues – not tattling.

 

Teacher Requirements

1.      Blow whistle to signal, hold up the number of fingers of the grade level that is to line up.

2.      Teach kids procedures for using equipment and group athletic games.

3.      Be on time to pick up kids after lunch recess.

4.      Supervise students closely (monitor for bullying behavior).

5.      Split up to supervise.

6.      Uniform way of handling telling and tattling.

 

Teacher Accountability

1.      Warning (redirect)

2.      Establish safe area for kids who break a rule.

3.      Accountable to colleagues to be on time.

4.      Monitor students by walking around the playground area.

5.      Student safety

6.      Lunch teachers should line students up on time.

7.      Safety procedures documented in lesson plans.

8.      Deal with issues immediately on playground

Student expectations

1.      Follow routine

2.      Quiet & orderly

3.      Parents & children outside until 8:50

4.      When cold or raining students wait at designated door, seated & quiet

5.      Arrive between 8:50-9:00

6.      Report students consistently dropped off early to office

 

Student Accountability

1.      Practice

2.      Office intervention

3.      Directly to classroom at bell, check in then errands if needed

4.      Student be back in room by 9:00 bell

5.      Report problems to your teacher

 

 Teacher Requirements

1.      Meet at door

2.      Positive greeting

3.      Routine set up

4.      Tardies sent to office

 

Teacher Accountability

1.      Establish routine

2.      Out of staff meeting on time

3.      On time Teachers at door by 8:50 bell

4.      Report students consistently dropped off early to office

 

Dismissal:   (back to top)

Student expectations

1.      Student items in backpacks not in hands (may not fit)

2.      Ready for dismissal—all trash is off floor

3.      No yelling, Low rumble

4.      No running

5.      Students will carry backpacks on backs even if it has rollers

6.      Bus riders go directly to bus

7.      Flow out of building—no loitering

 

Student Accountability

1.      Specific outside meeting places

2.      Student things are packed and ready to go by 4:05

 

Teacher Requirements

1.      Bell is for teacher-not the student

2.      Teach routine of where to exit by practice

3.      Support staff in hallway

4.      Grade level deliver kids in latchkey room in (ABC order)

5.      Teacher makes connection with student

6.       Teacher will be at classroom door to make sure all kids exit

 

Teacher Accountability

1.      Order lines out of classroom

2.      Assigned exit doors by grade level (teach and label)

3.      All staff out in hallways

4.       Student things a packed and ready to go with time to do it.

1.      Respectful – treat others as you want to be treated

2.      Listen to authority

3.      Raise hands

4.      Wait your turn

5.      Manners

6.      Follow classroom rules/procedures

 

Student Accountability

1.      Think Sheet

2.      Reflect think sheet to adult in charge – accountable for their behavior and change needed

 

 Teacher Requirements

1.      Respectful redirecting: not yelling, not arguing and calm tone of voice

2.      Redirect once – verbally

3.      Check email/mail daily

4.      Classroom teachers let special teachers now of “special issues” of students

5.      Send positive/negative communications to parents

1.      No sarcasm

2.      Monitor

1.      Student must be patient to know teacher will get to problem ASAP.

2.      Know teachers’ name.

3.      Listen to staff.

4.      Active listening.

 

Student Accountability

1.      Honesty-perpetrator, victim, witnesses

 

Teacher Requirements

1.       Acknowledge child’s specific needs.

2.       Communication

3.       Address any situation immediately.

4.       Say “Hi” or smile (acknowledge) at students in hall.

5.       Teacher by door.

6.       Active listening

 

Teacher Accountability

1.       Communicate concerns to all staff about specific children to help w/understanding (keeping in mind privacy issues)

2.       Communication

3.       Involve ALL staff (support, etc.) as needed.

4.       Communicate concerns to the child.

5.       Build trust
